GIS LABS

Lab Facilities at the Biological Survey

There are two computer laboratories open to all Survey personnel.  Available in room 241 are a Gateway 2000 P5-90 running Windows 95, a Gateway 2000 4DX2-66V running DOS 6.2/Windows 3.1, a Gateway 2000 P5-90 running OS/2 3.0, and IBM RS/6000 42T running AIX 3.2.5 and a Power Macintosh 8100/100 running MacOS System 7.5.  A large variety of commonly used software is available on these machines.  A PS/2 80 is running the GPS base station software and is not available for general use.  All of the other machines are connected to the Survey network.  Printers in the room include an HP Laserjet 4M+, an Apple Personal Laserwriter and an IBM Proprinter X24.  In addition, the Gateway 2000 4DX2-66V and the Macintosh are attached to a Polaroid CI-5000 Digital Palette slide maker and that GAteway also contains an anlog/digital conversion card and Signal software for analyzing sounds.

The other public computer laboratory is room 240.  This room contains two Sun workstations (an IPX and Sparcstation 10).  This room is used primarily for GIS applications.  In addition to the workstations, the room contains and Altek Datatab 38"X48" backlit digitizer with AC-31 controller, two Tektronix color printers (Phaser III pxi and 4696), and ENCAD Novajet II plotter, a Sun Sparcprinter, and a Sharp JX-610 color scanner.  The Sparcstation 10 setup includes 1/4", 8mm and 9-track tape drives.  Both Suns have CD-ROM drives.

The Survey also has 2 UltraSparc's and an UltraCreator 3D.
